tax time

Why did I ever say I would do the accounting for our farm? Being a complete accounting newbie (I never even did accounting at high school) there was some huge kind of learning curve to this when I started. Add to this the relatively new GST, and every quarter I have some serious stress. I am getting the hang of the program we are using, and the everyday, repeat entries are not a problem, but every time Ray buys something new, once-off, I have to jump through serious hoops to account for them. And most of the "principles" of accounting make absolutely no logical sense to me at all. Thanks to my Dad for being a phone call away every three months for his accounting-challenged daughter.

So, the quarterly accounts are entered, everything is reconciled (phew!) and the BAS is filled out, ready for me to pay on Monday and post to the tax office. Next job is to gather together all of our personal tax information and make an appointment with the accountant - no way am I going to think about tackling that job!

I think I need to go buy myself something!
