damn it's HOT

Yesterday Ray wanted to tackle the shed - get some stuff organised and shelves installed (from the clearing sale at the prison last year). What a STOOPID idea! It was hot, and dirty, and horrible. Granted, we got the shelves installed, and a huge area cleared in the shed, but it really wasn't the best day to tackle it. Think pounding headache, sweat, and aching back. I thought of taking a 'before' photo, but it would have been just too embarrassing to post. The bigger the shed, the more crap you can store. Ray is the worst for "it might come in handy one day". I finally convinced him to break up the old cot (for the bonfire) - he just couldn't believe that we couldn't find someone to pass it onto. This cot was almost an antique, had been painted so many times you couldn't even find the screws and nails that held it together, and had bars and a drop-down gate fitting the probably violated every single clause in the Australian Safety Standards book. And he took the two old carseats to the tip - again, these were well over ten years old, and you really just aren't supposed to pass things like that along, for safety reasons (I don't think he really believed me, but I just gave him 'the look' and he did as he was told). He finally moved out the old bureau/buffet that we had used for homeschool supplies at our last home (that has been in pieces in the shed since we moved three years ago) - the tip took it, they have a selling shed, maybe someone will want it (think brown 70s laminate, mirrors, glass shelves - ugh).

Today is just beyond hot - the north wind has abated somewhat now, but there is so much bushfire smoke in the sky the sunlight has a strange orange-brown reflection. The window glass was hot to touch (and it isn't in direct sunlight, all under the verandah), and I took the medical thermometer out the front door (on the verandah, in shade) and it went to 42 C and then went blank (it goes to 42 then turns off, cos I guess you're dead then) - that's 108.7F in the old scale, damned hot! Josiah and Caleb are at Michael's house, we all should have gone, cos they have aircon at least! This would be one of the few days that I wish we had it. I forbade Ray from working outside (silly man!) - he's watching the cricket and melting on the couch. The other kids are playing games on their computer with fans going, drinking lots of icy cordial from the freezer.

Don't know what to do with myself - have a couple of pages I want to scrap, but don't know if the brain will work at the moment. It's even too hot to take a nap. Damn!
